Ofisa was born in 1955 from the merger of the main Florentine companies, about ten in number, at the suggestion of mayors Mario Fabiani (the first post-war mayor of Florence) and Giorgio La Pira (three times mayor of the regional capital of Tuscany) who represented so much for the history of Florence in the post-war period. The creator and animator of this historic union was the accountant Aldo Giuliattini, a man of great intuition, to whom we owe, among other things, along with colleagues from other cities, the idea of forming the first trade association, Feniof.
At the presidency of Ofisa, Giuseppe Guerrini and then Roberto Orsini, men with strong personalities, were able to aggregate and amalgamate the group of very old funeral parlours in Florence that had once competed with each other.
The path undertaken by the founders of the Ofisa group led it to be considered a model of organisation, unique in Italy of this size, from the very beginning. The example of the Florence funeral company then gave rise, starting in the late 1960s, to the establishment of similar funeral companies in large Italian cities, such as Genoa, Arezzo, Milan and La Spezia, with different fortunes and outcomes.
More than half a century has passed since the foundation of Onoranze Funebri Toscane s.p.a but today, as then, Ofisa remains one of Tuscany's most important private benefactors.
From the very beginning, the Florentine Ofisa Group has woven privileged relations with the world of voluntary work and social assistance, which is particularly and historically rooted in Tuscany.
